Philip D. Weinstock

d. August 7, 2020

Philip D. Weinstock, 57, of Lauderhill, died on August 7th from complications related to COVID-19.

Phil was born in New York City, spent his early childhood in New Jersey, and came to Ft. Lauderdale in 1971. He was a gifted student and esteemed classmate at Pine Crest School. His creativity knew no bounds. He was a national champion in academic games and excelled in photography and film making. He wrote short stories and poetry. He soared through college at the University of Florida, with a degree in psychology.

For most of Phil’s adult life, he fought a courageous battle with mental illness, but mental illness did not change his heart. Phil had a kind and loving heart. He was honest to the core – Phil would not tell even the smallest lie. He was a lover of all kinds of music, from his favorites, Bob Dylan, U2 and the Doors, to the jazz he learned to love from his father’s record company Prestige Records. He loved football, especially the Gators. But what sustained him the most through his life’s struggles was his faith in his Messiah, Jesus. Phil was meek, pure in heart and a peacemaker. He was a member of and volunteered at New Hope Community Church in Ft. Lauderdale.

Phil was a beloved son, brother, and uncle, who is survived and missed by his mother Joan, brothers James and Bruce, sisters-in-law Karen and Barbara, nephews James and Bruce and niece Rebekah. Preceded in death by his father Robert.

Socially distant funeral at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th St., Plantation, on August 20 at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at Bailey Memorial Cemetery, 7801 Bailey Rd., North Lauderdale. Arrangements entrusted to T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home (954) 587-6888 tmralph.com
